A Prayer and Meditation for the Earth, Our Common Home

The newly formed Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice, in partnership with SanDiego350, will hold an interfaith prayer and meditation service on the morning of the Rise for Climate! March in San Diego. We believe that to heal the devastation that we have wrought upon the earth we must restore a right relationship with the earth. Prayer and meditation can be a powerful pathway in this work of restoration. At this event, one hundred persons from a variety of faiths will lay upon the ground in a square formation, facing first east, then west, then north and then south. We will lay upon the earth in humility and to witness to our rootedness in the earth. The prayer and meditation service will be silent, but the event will begin with spoken prayers from local faith leaders and end with the making of a joyous noise as a sign of both hope and action. This event will take place on Saturday, September 8 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Civic Center. The public and press are welcome to join us in silent witness.
